چکیده

Objective: To review selected recent studies on the therapeutic applications of nanoparticles and nanoparticle-conjugated antimicrobials as new alternatives for a variety intracellular infections.
Data Sources: Recent published papers infections, including bacterial, viral, parasitic diseases in humans. The PubMed database was used main source. Publicly available were retrieved.
Summary Contents: Therapeutic failure infections is challenging clinical problem. Antibiotics, anti-parasitics, antivirals, other drugs might not reach effective levels compartments; these agents high doses become toxic may show undesirable effects. Researchers have been looking alternative strategies to spaces. development novel release mechanisms currently research priority infectious diseases. With this background, approaches such those based nanotechnology, fabrication drug nanocarriers, are increasing interest researchers clinicians. goal nanocarriers provide controlled into cellular compartments with selectivity, higher efficiency, better outcomes, less toxicity, more rational dosing schemes compared traditional ones. Biocompatibility ensure affinity reticuloendothelial immunological systems, which facilitate delivery compartments.
Conclusion: Nanoparticle systems great potential diseases, particularly difficult-to-treat caused by pathogens. These tested several drugs, enzymes, genes, peptides, showing long half-lives due their hydrophilic coatings. optimization nanoparticle-based has improved our understanding different underlying biological interactions engineering even complex nanoparticles.

Recent Advances in Intracellular and In Vivo ROS Sensing: Focus on Nanoparticle and Nanotube Applications

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are increasingly being implicated in the regulation of cellular signaling cascades. Intracellular ROS fluxes are associated with cellular function ranging from proliferation to cell death. Moreover, the importance of subtle, spatio-temporal shifts in ROS during localized cellular signaling events is being realized. Understanding the biochemical nature of the ROS in...

Intracellular gold nanoparticle aggregation and their potential applications in photodynamic therapy.

Gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) with opposite surface charge can form aggregates through electrostatic interaction and exhibit surface plasmon resonance (SPR) induced-localized electromagnetic (EM) field enhancement under light irradiation. Intracellular aggregation of Au NPs can further improve the therapeutic efficiency of Au NP-enhanced photodynamic therapy of cancer by promoting singlet oxygen ...

Chemotherapy of Intracellular Infections

The phagocytic system, distributed throughout the blood and tissue compartments of the body, acts as an intermediary between the host and pathogenic microorganisms. This is not a specific function, it being one of the physiological properties of phagocytes to engulf particulate matter and even larger molecules which have gained access to blood or tissues of an organism. Metchnikoff (15), recogn...

Optical nanoparticle sensors for quantitative intracellular imaging.

Real-time measurements of biological/chemical/physical processes, with no interferences, are an ultimate goal for in vivo intracellular studies. To construct intracellular biosensors that meet such a goal, nanoparticle (NP) platforms seem to be most promising, because of their small size and excellent engineerability. This review describes the development of NP-based opical sensors and their in...

Natural Resistance to Intracellular Infections

Mutations at the natural resistance-associated macrophage protein 1 (Nramp1) locus cause susceptibility to infection with antigenically unrelated intracellular pathogens. Nramp1 codes for an integral membrane protein expressed in the lysosomal compartment of macrophages, and is recruited to the membrane of phagosomes soon after the completion of phagocytosis. To define whether Nramp1 functions ...
